Mommy's First Snow Day!

Well good 'ol Michigan and Mother Nature granted me the first snow day of the school year. The temperatures went from 45 to 5 in a matter of thirty minutes and along with thunderstorms then snow and 50 mph winds it was enough to close every school in the area, including colleges. All the rain froze on the ground and roads in a matter of thirty minutes and with the windchill, it is -15 degrees! So, I got to stay home with Matthew today. He slept in until 10:00 (another 14 hour night), ate and fell back asleep at 11:30 and is still sleeping. I took the "free" time to make some more baby food for the freezer. All I had laying around were some pears and carrots, but we needed both in the supply stock. Other than that, I was used as a pillow by Norm and Ojala at the same time! When Matthew wakes up, we plan on playing, eating and working on crawling. He is getting stronger by the day. He still can't get on his knees yet, but is pretty darn good at going backwards!

Nothing New

Sorry for the long delay in postings, I thought you would just want to see the pea video more and more. Matthew has now had meat. He started with beef and also had chicken. He is trying so hard to crawl, but can't seem to get the hands and legs together. He will pivot on his belly to grab objects to the side and when he pushes on his hands, he often scoots backwards. To move forward, he will stick his butt in the air and with straight legs and strong toes, push a little forward. He just can't seem to put the straight hands and bent knees together. Oh well! He will crawl when he is ready. He does, however, like to stand. He will stand along holding on to the table (not moving around though) and reach for things on the table. He is also very interested in the food drops on his highchair tray. I spilled some food yesterday and he immediately reached out and tried to grab the food. Instead he just mixed it all around and made a fun mess. I tried to show him to move his messy fingers to his mouth, but he wasn't having it. That is all for now, we will keep you posted on more things to come!

Pea Video

Here is the video of Matthew trying peas for the first time. You can be the judge if he likes them or not! The following night we mixed them with carrots and then the night after that we mixed them with sweet potato and he liked them. This was the first and only food so far that has produced this kind of reaction. He also loved broccoli which surprised me a bit. Well anyway, Enjoy!

Weekly Update

Matthew is doing great! He returned to daycare Monday after my two week break and didn't flinch one bit! He loves his feet lately as well as other people's socks. Deah (our daycare) found that out when Matthew started stealing the other baby's socks and putting them in his mouth! What a character! He is doing very well with two solid meals a day. He now eats lunch at daycare and dinner with us. The only food he isn't too fond of if peas. We have a video to post soon of that experience. It is pretty funny! We mixed the peas with some carrots and sweet potatoes and he was fine eating them then. In other food news, I am officially done nursing Matthew. He has really lost interest in nursing since starting solids and I am just not making what he needs anyway, so we are moving on. He will have his last bottle of milk tomorrow (from my summer stash) at daycare and then be all formula until he is one year. That is about all for now. Have a great weekend!

Seven Months

Matthew is seven months old today! We just got back from the pediatrician and Matthew got the "clean bill of health" from the doctor. His ear infections are all gone! He weighs a shade over 16 pounds too! He got his second flu shot today as well. We have yet met a food that he doesn't like, so that is also good news! He has had apples, cinnamon apples, pears, green beans, squash, sweet potato and carrots so far. We will try peas, broccoli, peaches, papaya, mango and banana soon. Making our own food is going quite well too. I usually take some time on the weekends to puree the fruit and veggies and then freeze the cubes. He eats two cubes at each sitting. We are starting lunch and dinner tomorrow for solids.

Tooth #2

Matthew's second tooth on the bottom finally cut today! He now has two teeth on the bottom that have cut through the gum line. Knowing that they have finally broken skin is a relief to us, Matthew has been in noticeable pain the past few days while playing. If he hit those gums the wrong way he would scream in pain. The scream was nothing we had ever heard before and from the sound of it we knew it was a painful cry. As I put some Orajel on his swollen gums tonight and he smiled as if it was what he was asking for. He then fell right asleep! I take him to the doctor tomorrow for his second flu shot booster and final ear infection check-up (he had a second ear infection around his 6 month birthday). Keep your fingers crossed that he is clear of it all.

Happy Birthday Maia!

"sdflknfdslkj;eroihjnfglknjdsglkcvm,.lkrf" That is Matthew's best interpretation of Happy Birthday Maia! We hope this year brings you as much joy and happiness as the last for everyone in your life! We love you!

We have teeth!

Last night Matthew cut his first tooth! He has been working on the bottom two teeth for a little over a month now and the first one cut through last night. The second one on the bottom is not far behind, hopefully it will cut this week as well. He was chewing on my fingers last night and I felt the poke of a tooth! When he was babbling and yawning we were able to see the top of the tooth in his gum line.

We had a good New Years Eve here. We had a few friends over for dinner and played cards. Not much, but it was fun! Matthew stayed up about an hour past his bedtime to play with Jack and then he slept until 10:00 this morning. We got about a foot of snow last night, so the dogs had a ball chasing and playing in the snow this morning. For the rest of the day we are hanging out here, watching the rest of Lost: Season 2 and some football. Happy New Year to Everyone!

Here are some photos of Maia's first birthday party. We went out to Ann Arbor on Sunday to celebrate with her.
