First day of daycare

Well today was Matthew's first day of daycare. I did surprisingly well, I held it together until I got to the car and started to drive away. Then the flood gates opened. It was really weird to just hand him over to another mother and leave for the afternoon. He ate shortly after I dropped him off and played with them for the afternoon. When Ryan and I went picked him up he gave us a smile when he was handed to me. That made my heart melt, knowing that he recognized us. Needless to say I held him most of the night, getting my scent back on him. It is hard having your son smell like someone else. We went grocery shopping and he slept in his sling close to me. He just ate and was asleep at 8:30 tonight. He was very tired tonight and did not have any trouble falling asleep. He will go for a half day tomorrow as well and then full time starting on Wednesday.

New Photos!

I put some new photos on the regular site for your viewing pleasure. Some are of Matthew and some are from a storm that rolled through pretty quickly last night. Enjoy!

I should also note that I don't know how to change the time on this site, but it is really 7:00 a.m. NOT 3:56 like it says. I don't get up that early!

Rollin!

Last week Matthew rolled over for the first time from his tummy to his back! Of course I was home alone so I was the only one who saw it. I have been trying to get him to do it all week for Ryan and finally yesterday he did it for him. He works those little legs so hard and finally gets onto his side and then the rest is history. When I got him up this morning he was kicking his legs like crazy on his back and arching his back to try to get on his side. I know rolling from the front to back is much harder and will come with time.

He continues to love his fist and has started to find his thumb and first finger. He plays with his toys more now, especially in his car seat. I will put a toy in his lap and he will grab onto it and start to shake it around. While playing he will watch his fingers and toes very carefully and with much amazement.

Daycare starts next Monday...wish me luck!

Weekly Update

Here is a new photo taken at our house this weekend of my family. Matthew had a busy weekend and did fairly well with the hustle and bustle. Ryan and I went to our friend, Abby's wedding on Saturday and left Matthew with Ann for the day. He was really good for her and Greg, sleeping most of the day and early evening. He slept pretty good that night and into the early morning Sunday. We hosted a thank you BBQ for all our movers. Matthew did okay at that. He was passed around a lot at the BBQ, being held by a lot of different people. He missed his afternoon nap making him overly tired by the end of the party. He refused to lay in his crib, and would only sleep on Ryan or myself. He fell asleep and slept for eight hours at night, but has been very cranky for most of today, mainly crying if I put him down. So, we are working hard to get his routine back into place.

Other than that, we are having a blast being new parents. We are very fortunate that Matthew will sleep between eight to ten hours at night and then take a morning and afternoon/early evening nap. He smiles even more now and is very comforted by Ryan and I holding him. Norm likes Matthew more now too, he often will kiss Matthew for no reason now (he used to only do it for a cookie!). I am looking forward to my last two weeks with Matthew before I head back to work.

Two month check-up

Matthew and I made our trip to Ann Arbor to see Brian, Cara, and Maia. Matthew did very well in the car. He slept most of the way there and took a short nap at their house, but he did stay awake for most of the trip home which worked out very nice for us. When we got home, he immediately ate and went to bed and slept for eight hours! Needless to say when I woke up at 5:15 this morning, I ran into his room to see if he was okay and sure enough he was still sleeping. It was very nice to see Brian, Cara, and Maia. Maia is getting so big, it is hard to believe that they are only five months apart. Maia has such a personality, it was a pure joy to hold her and play with her.

We just got back from our two month appointment at the pediatrician. Matthew now weighs 11 pounds 10 ounces. He is 22.5 inches long too. He has gained four pounds and 2.5 inches since his two week check-up. He got five shots in the legs and one oral injection in his mouth. He screamed of course and I cried as I knew I would. It was very hard to see him screaming in pain like that. He held my fingers during the shots and never let go. I'm glad this is a part of his childhood that he won't remember. I immediately nursed him when the shots were done which calmed him immediately and put him to sleep for the trip home. He is sleeping right now in his swing, resting and relaxing. We just need to keep an eye on him and watch for a fever. We don't go back to the doctor until he is four months old.

On another note, Lindsay and Jon had their son, Brady, on Saturday. He was 6 lbs. 15 oz. Congratulations to them and we all can't wait to meet him!

Happy Two Month Birthday!

Matthew is two months old today! He continues to eat like a champ. He is starting to spread out his daytime feeding to about three and a half hours to four hours. He also continues to sleep very well at night usually getting between six to seven and a half hours of sleep until he needs to eat and then he takes about another five hour nap until he is ready to be up for the morning. We go to the doctor on Monday for his check-up and shots.

Matthew and I are making our first trip alone out of the Kalamazoo area this weekend. We are traveling to Ann Arbor on Sunday to visit with Aunt Cara, Uncle Brian and cousin Maia. We have not seen them since Matthew was six days old. It will be nice to get the kids together.

In other news around the house, Norm is getting used to his invisible fence. He did test the system last tonight, this first since Monday, and got a shock. He immediately ran to the front door and was ready to be inside for the night after that. He'll learn soon enough. That's it for now. I'll let you know how Monday's doctor appointment went next week, wish us luck!
